June 2006

From the STC President
Dear STC members,
Each month, I'll be sending you an update highlighting items of interest to the STC community. There's a lot to report! I'd also like to hear about what you're doing. Please share your thoughts with me at pres@stc.org.

Governance
- STC’s volunteers and staff left Las Vegas with lots of enthusiasm for our new and continuing initiatives. To see who’s doing what this year, take a look at the organization charts at www.stc.org/pDF_Files/theNewSTC0506.pdf.
- The STC Board of Directors met by phone on Wednesday, June 21. Slides are available at http://wwwstc.org/ppt/060621_BoardTeleconference.ppt. I think you’ll be impressed at just how much is going on in STC.
- We’re looking for volunteers to work on the Community Business Model Task Force. You must have at least two years of experience as a chapter president or treasurer, or as a SIG manager. For more information, contact STC Director Mike Murray at Dirmm@stc.org.
Office Staff
- Mary Kabza joined the STC staff as Director of Membership and Marketing. She’ll direct our volunteers as we launch our three-year growth strategy. More details to come as Mary settles into her new role.
Partnerships
- STC has rejoined INTECOM (www.intecom.org, the International Council for Technical Communication). More details next month.
- STC is a sponsor of World Usability Day on November 14, 2006. Details are available at www.worldusabilityday.org.
- Did you know that STC actively participates in ISO and W3C standards work? Be sure to take a look at the article by Annette Reilly in the upcoming September/October Intercom to understand why this work is so important to us as technical communicators.
Education
- Work continues on the new, revamped Technical Communication Summit: STC's 54th Annual Conference. Look for the Call for Proposals next month.
- Two podcasts from Leadership Day at the conference are now posted at www.stc.org/stcmembers/podcasts01.asp. Look for more podcasts soon.
Next month...
- Committee pages on the STC.org site
- Redesign of the STC.org site
- Update on the Certification Evaluation Task Force
- STC's research grants program
- Our newest chapter--Korea!
