October At-a-Glance

In early September, applications for STC’s honorary societies, Sigma Tau Chi and Alpha Sigma, were mailed to heads of university technical communication departments.

In late September, scholarship materials were mailed to all schools and universities offering programs in technical communication, as well as to the STC Board of Directors, chapter presidents, and chapter newsletter editors. Chapters are encouraged to publicize this information in their chapter newsletter.

Chapter Leaders’ Reminders

Conduct a local membership drive. If you would like brochures and applications sent to you, please e-mail Lloyd Tucker, Director of Membership and Education.
If you are participating in the STC Newsletter Competition, remember that the completed entry form and two copies of the first issue must be postmarked by October 15, 2007. Subsequent issues must be postmarked by January 11, 2008.
Nominations for the Jay R. Gould Award for Excellence in Teaching Technical Communication are due to Carol Barnum, Manager of the Jay R. Gould Award for Excellence in Teaching Technical Communication Committee, by October 15, 2007.
Nominations for the Ken Rainey Award for Excellence in Research are due to Hillary Hart, Manager of the Ken Rainey Award for Excellence in Research Committee, by November 1, 2007.
The deadline for submitting recommendations for the Distinguished Chapter Service Award (DCSA), Distinguished SIG Service Award (DSSA), and Distinguished Service Award for Students (DSAS) is November 30, 2007. Recommendations should be sent to Deborah Silvi, Distinguished Community Awards (DCA) Committee Chair, and will be collected and presented to the STC Board of Directors for approval at its January meeting.
