Attention Newsletter Editors and Webmasters:
The STC office encourages community webmasters and newsletter editors to promote the Technical Communication Summit, STC’s 55th Annual Conference, June 1–4, 2008, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by publicizing conference information in their newsletters and on community Web sites.
Conference early-bird registration rates offer the best value. STC members receive a significant discount relative to the nonmember rate. Online registration will open in late January on the STC Web site.
Early-bird rates will be available until March 17, 2008. Members will receive a rate of $695. The early-bird rate is $995 for nonmembers and $175 for student members. For student nonmembers and retired members or retired nonmembers, the early-bird rate is $225.
Please note that early publication of conference registration rates is essential. Many technical communicators must submit requests for employer funding well in advance of the conference. Editors and webmasters should give the rates prominent placement in community newsletters and on community Web sites.
More information about conference hotel amenities will be announced soon on the STC Web site. The official conference hotel is the Marriott Downtown Philadelphia. Offering the highest level of service, the Marriott is directly connected via walkway to the Pennsylvania Convention Center, where the conference sessions and EXPO will be held. The per-night rate for a single or double room at the Marriott is $218 before tax. Attendees who stay at the Marriott throughout the days of the conference will be eligible to win exciting prizes.
More information on how to make reservations for the conference will also be included in the Preliminary Program, to be mailed in late February.
Information on Philadelphia tourist attractions appears in Intercom’s Society Pages. STC newsletter editors are encouraged to reprint these articles. If you prefer to run original copy about Philadelphia, begin your research at the Official Visitor Site for Greater Philadelphia.
Local interest articles, such as profiles of chapter members who will be speaking at the conference, can help your membership become more familiar with the conference. SIG newsletter editors and webmasters may wish to publicize conference sessions that would interest SIG members. Information about conference sessions will appear in the Preliminary Program and on the STC Web site.
STC’s annual conference is the Society’s largest single fundraising event. Proceeds from the conference help the Society continue to provide popular membership benefits such as Intercom, Technical Communication, and the annual STC Salary Survey. Promoting the conference at the chapter and SIG levels can help ensure its success.
