STC’s 2008 election is scheduled to open at noon ET on March 12 and close at noon ET on April 14. Voting instructions and ballots will be e-mailed to members in March. Members who indicated on their membership applications and renewal forms that they do not wish to receive election materials electronically will be sent paper ballots via first-class mail.
To be eligible to vote, members must have joined STC or renewed their memberships by February 28, 2008. Eligible members may vote once, either electronically or by postal mail. Student members do not have voting rights.
Voting electronically. Starting at noon ET on March 12, members can access the official STC proxy ballot. Instructions for logging in to the electronic ballot will be e-mailed to members on March 12.
Voting by postal mail. Members who prefer to vote by mail will receive paper ballots from STC’s election vendor. Please return these ballots as soon as possible using the envelope provided. To be valid, paper ballots must be returned by noon ET on April 14.
Here are the candidates for STC’s 2008 election:
Second Vice PresidentFrom the STC Web site, members can read candidates’ responses to questions posed by the STC nominating committee. Members can also ask questions directly of the candidates. The March issue of Intercom will include abbreviated versions of the candidates’ responses to the nominating committee’s questions.
Please note that STC’s new bylaws, recently adopted by the membership, no longer require the officers in STC’s presidential chain of succession—our incoming president and incoming first vice president—to stand for election. Therefore, incoming president Mark Clifford and incoming first vice president Cindy Currie will not appear on the ballot this year.
To fill the vacancies on the Board of Directors caused by the mid-term resignations of STC directors Jeff Staples and Mike Murray, members will elect five directors in this year’s election. The top three vote-getters among the director candidates will serve full three-year terms (from June 2008 through May 2011). The candidates receiving the fourth- and fifth-highest numbers of votes will serve the remainders of Staples’s and Murray’s terms (until May 2009) and will be considered for placement on STC’s 2009 preliminary slate of candidates.
